Technically, it was Farmhouse Vegetable Barley Soup from the November 2011 issue of Cooks' Illustrated, but title is still accurate. This is the second dish I've made which featured leeks as a primary ingredient and my first foray into turnips and both left a bad taste in my mouth (somewhat literally). The recipe isn't terrible but I realized last night that I was having to force myself to eat it, and life is too short to eat unappetizing fare, so it's getting tossed. That said, if you're a fan of said vegetables, here's someone else's review.
Normally I wouldn't even post about it, but it's the opening salvo into my New Year resolution to cook something every two weeks so I wanted to make a note of it.
But as it was a failure in my eyes, I'm going to go ahead and cook something non-Cooks' Illustrated next week, specifically Alton Brown's meatloaf.
It's hard to screw up meatloaf. :D
