I thought us safe within my walls,
The windows shuttered, door secured.
I thought the hunters left the woods,
Traps felled to ruin, for want of prey.
I thought the fire of love would mend,
But shadows lurk where there is light.
I could not keep them from your eyes
Nor burn so bright to smite them whole
And so the home my heart had made
Was once again a house no more.
